Over the years I’ve had the chance to teach animation in various forms, from online to brick-and-mortar schools, and it’s always a really fun experience.
At The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark, I’ve taught multiple classes.
Parkour/Body Mechanics: For the second year students, I’ve taught a two-week class focusing on Body Mechanics. With a parkour shot as an entry point, we learn how to analyze and combine reference clips into a flow a different actions.
We learn how to block and refine in an iterative way.
And finally, as time permits, we polish, clean spacing and arcs.
The class focuses on strong posing and weight distribution.
For the “Professional training” students, I also teach a 5 week “Intro to animation” class.
Here we go from bouncing ball, overlap exercises, walk and run cycles and end with a weight lift.
Another class I teach for the “Professional training” students is a two week acting class, where we focus on facial performance and acting.
I have also taken on private mentorship, where I’ve structured classes to individualize the teaching to suit exactly what the student is looking to learn.
My teaching style in general is very feedback focused, where I will focus on thorough draw over feedback to help pinpoint exactly where the students can improve their work, and less (but not entirely without) on general animation theory.
